About Us
 The
Multicultural Area Health Education Center, Inc. (MAHEC)
is a non-profit organization based in East Los Angeles.
It was founded in 1985 by Luis Mata (pictured right)
with the help of an Area Health Education Center federal
grant from the U.S. Department of Health Services. MAHEC
specializes in addressing the health information and
health education needs of the Latino community in Los
Angeles County.
Today, MAHEC is one of the Area Health
Education Centers in California which has evolved into
a multifaceted, non-profit, community based agency.
MAHEC is now recognized as a model for other AHEC's
because of its evolution to non-profit status and its
focus on providing ethnic-specific programs and services
in a fast-changing and complex health care delivery
environment.
